2gether Watch: The Watch2Gether Alternative With No Sign-Up

Watch2Gether has been around for a long time and it works — but it also asks for an account if you want saved rooms or history, runs ads, and puts HD sync and larger rooms behind a paid plan. If you just want to open a room and press play, that's a lot of friction for something that should take ten seconds.

2gether Watch is built around the opposite idea: no account, ever. You open the homepage, optionally type a display name, and click Create New Room. That's the whole signup flow.

What's actually different

2gether Watch Watch2Gether
Account required No, never Not for basic use, but required for saved rooms/history
Ads None Yes, on the free tier
Price Free, no premium tier Freemium — HD sync and larger rooms are paywalled
Audio/video calls Built in, peer-to-peer Not built in
Screen sharing Built in Not built in
Media routing Peer-to-peer WebRTC — never touches the server Routed through Watch2Gether's servers
Source Open source (MIT), self-hostable Closed source

Why the "no account" part matters more than it sounds

It's not just about skipping a form. Because 2gether Watch never stores an account, there's nothing tied to your identity beyond the room link itself — and because audio, video, and screen-share media travel directly between browsers over WebRTC rather than through a server, the app never sees or stores your camera, microphone, or screen feed. Watch2Gether's model works fine for playback sync, but it doesn't offer that same peer-to-peer privacy story for calls, mostly because it doesn't offer calls at all.

Everything you'd actually use it for

  • Sync — paste a YouTube link or a direct video URL and everyone in the room watches in lockstep.
  • Chat — a live text chat panel next to the video.
  • Calls — optional webcam and microphone, so you can talk while you watch.
  • Screen share — share your screen instead of a video URL, useful for anything that isn't a clean streaming link.
  • Up to 10 viewers per room, full mesh, no server relay for media.

Switching over

There's nothing to migrate — no account to close, no history to export. Go to the homepage, create a room, and send the link to whoever you were about to invite to a Watch2Gether session instead.
